Let xx be the sum of ages of 9 friends, then
x9=22\frac{x}{9}=22
x=22×9=198x=22\times9=198
One of those xx is LAVGIR, who is 6 years old. Age of the group just before LAVGIR =198−6(9)=198−54=144=198-6(9)=198-54=144
And now that LAVGIR doesn't exist yet, there are 8 friends now, hence average age =1448=18=\frac{144}{8}=18
