A contractor undertakes to do a piece of work in 40 days. He engages 100 men at the beginning and 100 more after 35 days and completes the work in stipulated time. If he had not engaged the additional men, how many days behind schedule would it be finished?

Correct Option: 2
Let's say total work = WW units
Initial setup: \newline - First 35 days: 100 men working \newline - Last 5 days: 200 men working
According to work done: \newline (100×35+200×5)(100 × 35 + 200 × 5) man-days = WW \newline 3500+1000=W3500 + 1000 = W \newline W=4500W = 4500 man-days
If only 100 men worked: \newline Time taken = 4500100=45\frac{4500}{100} = 45 days
Since original schedule was 40 days: \newline Delay = 4540=545 - 40 = 5 days
Therefore, work would be finished 5 days behind schedule.
